Steve Burton entered the practice of law in 1998 after an eighteen year career in commercial banking. His experience as a commercial and real estate lending officer has served him well in the practice of law. He is now a shareholder and director of the firm.

Mr. Burton's primary practice areas include construction law, banking/creditor's rights, commercial litigation, real estate, guardianship and probate.

He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in April, 1954. Steve and his wife Dene were married in 1978 and have two adult children. He enjoys travel and playing golf in his spare time.

Areas Of Practice:
Construction Law: A significant portion of Mr. Burton's practice is devoted to construction law. He has been a member of the Construction Law Section of the State Bar of Texas since 1999. He has successfully litigated cases involving allegations of construction defects and contract disputes on behalf of property owners (both residential and commercial), general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. Mr. Burton has served as a mediator for construction related disputes. He routinely lectures at Baylor Law School regarding construction related issues.

Banking/Creditor's Rights: Few attorneys have Mr. Burton's experience dealing with "problem credits" and loan "workouts." While working as a commercial lender during the 1980s and early 1990s, Mr. Burton dealt extensively with difficult credits. He understands the creditors's ultimate objective is to be repaid as fully as possible. To that end, Mr. Burton's approach to working with problem credits includes exploring all legal options while at the same time advising the use of sound business judgement. His clients include banking institutions, contractors, small businesses and individuals.

Commercial Litigation: In addition to those matter related to construction law and banking/creditor's rights, Mr. Burton represents a variety of business interests and individuals in resolving commercial disputes thru the use of negotiations, mediation or litigation. He also maintains an active insurance defense practice by working with several regional and national carriers in a variety of areas including premises liability, construction defects, motor vehicle accidents, general liability occurances and garage policies.

Real Estate: Mr. Burton routinely handles a variety of real estate related matters including the review and drafting of contracts and litigation of real estate disputes.

Guardianship and Probate: Mr. Burton is the parent of a special needs child. As a result, he has seen first hand the need that families with special needs members have for guardianship services. He regularly serves as an ad litem representing the interests of proposed wards in guardianship proceedings. Mr. Burton also assists with probate matters and estate administration.
